Anmol Furniture Works

I looked at the Google reviews and ratings for different carpenters and after getting quotes from three, I decided to go with Islam of Anmol Furniture Works. The work involved minor carpentry jobs, like cutting and fixing shelves and also polishing of teak furniture. But nothing prepared me for the terrible work that was to come. Shelf supports were badly cut, teda-meda and mismatched sizes. The shelf sizes that were cut didn't match the supports. Screw holes for exhaust fan support frames were drilled and re-drilled because they were not measured properly. The wooden frame of an old grill that had to be removed and re-fixed was hastily done and spoilt, with deep gouges and cuts here and there. Simple cutting jobs were botched up. A shelf that needed a new beading took forever because the workmen including Islam couldn't figure out how to cut for the V corners. And in the process they even destroyed the first one I bought and made me buy it again. Another two shelves whose beadings had to be levelled were so shoddily done that they have waves instead of straight lines. In fact that's when I realised that Islam doesn't even have a 'randa' tool and he was hacking at the beading to level it with a chisel. Oh God!!! In fact, at one point I had to do it myself because they would have destroyed the beading entirely. Just when I thought things couldn't get worse, the polishing job was so badly done that I cry almost every time I look at my furniture now. I had asked for a matt finish and they did a semi-gloss. When I complained, they said it will settle in a week. It never did. In fact smudges and badly done touch-ups became more and more pronounced as time went by. I brought this to Islam's notice and he promised to resolve it before Ramzan but he never did, even after I followed up several times. Then I realised he is not a man of his word. I have seen decent to good carpenters from the time I was a teenager and I have realised that Islam is probably not a carpenter but someone who knows how to operate a few tools and has a vague idea of the work. He has no professional expertise or experience at all. Another thing was how unpleasant he made the atmosphere at home ... the whole time that the workmen were there. Islam as the main guy was constantly shouting and abusing the workmen. And yes, he did this extremely well. Probably the only thing he can do properly. Every rupee I gave him was completely wasted and all I have now is just a lot of badly done work to show for it. I really don't know how this guy has so many good reviews ... maybe he did very small jobs, maybe the reviews are fake ... God only knows. But I will never call this man for even the tiniest job and I would urge anyone considering him to look elsewhere.

When I called you for help with 3 wardrobes and kitchen work, you kindly offered to visit my house for inspection. But during your visit, I felt a bit uncomfortable because you kept pushing me to fix a date to start the work. You mentioned that you had spent money on petrol and time and that you could have earned 6–7k during that time. I respect your effort and time, and I even offered to pay a visit charge. But I believe it's better to discuss such things (like visit fees or expectations) clearly before the visit, not afterward. Putting pressure on the customer after coming for inspection doesn’t feel like a good business practice. I hope this feedback helps for future visits with customers. No hard feelings — just honest feedback for better understanding.
