I’m an academician and recently shifted from IIT Kanpur to Indore. I chose Soni Movers and Packers based on a prior experience two years ago while moving from Greater Noida to Kanpur, when they charged ₹12,000 and the service was mostly fine (though my smartwatch went missing during packing, which they denied taking). This time, I had almost the same items (only replacing a cooler with a fridge). When I contacted them, they simply asked how much I paid last time and quoted ₹16,000 accordingly. We agreed. Everything was arranged over a phone call as they don’t have an office in Kanpur. Packing was professional and we were assured our belongings wouldn’t get wet (it was monsoon season). However, after the truck left, we got a midnight call where they unexpectedly raised the cost to ₹23,000, adding ₹3,000 for "insurance" and ₹4,000 for scooty transport—none of which were discussed or agreed upon earlier. We had no choice but to agree since they had already taken our items. To make it worse, delivery was delayed by a day, the driver stopped answering calls, and several items, including clothes and the fridge, were wet—despite their assurances. This experience was highly unprofessional and frustrating. We felt misled, overcharged, and treated with a lack of transparency. I would not recommend Soni Movers based on this experience.
